Students,
We are in the process of developing a web based resume tool where
you can post your resume for viewing by potential motorsports
employers. The resumes will reside in a password protected section
of the new Motorsports Engineering Website. Businesses, race teams,
and other employers who are friends of the program will be able to
request a password to view these resumes on line for potential
summer, internship, and full-time job openings. Be aware that by
submitting your resume, you are making the information public to
those entities as well as faculty and the folks maintaining the web
site (often students). Do not submit any information that you wish
to keep private.
1) INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING RESUMES:
If you would like to submit a resume, please copy and paste the
following form into the body of an e-mail. Attach a pdf (only format
we will use) of your resume to the email and send to Jim Cuttino at
jcuttino@uncc.edu.
The form for the body of the email is as follows:
-----
A) Full Name:
B) Category/Major(s) to place your resume in: (Mechanical Eng,
Electrical Eng, Computer Eng, Engineering Technology, Kinesiology,
Business & Marketing, Graphic Design)
C) Degree: BS, MS, PhD, MBA, BFA
D) Class Level: (Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior)
E) Applying for: (Summer Employment, Year-Round Internship,
Full-Time Position [Seniors], Other)
-----
2) FORMATTING YOUR RESUMES AND COVER LETTER:
We will accept a SINGLE document that contains both your cover
letter and your resume. Note that since this will be going out to
numerous businesses, you will have to keep the cover letter generic
by addressing to "Sir or Madam" or "To Whom It May Concern." The
first page should be your cover letter. Note that most employers
know by the second paragraph if you
are a "keeper" or not - use this cover letter carefully to tout your
strengths early and make them want to read on. The second page will
be your resume. I recommend doing this in a Table in Word where the
gridlines are invisible. It helps substantially to keep formatting
neat and in line.
Use a program like Adobe Acrobat to convert text files and documents
to PDF files. To do this on a Mosaic system, simply open your text
file using a word processing program such as MS Word, then chose to
print your file. When the "which printer" prompt comes up, chose
"PDF Writer" from the menu. A pop up menu will ask you where to
write the .pdf file. If you need
assistance ask a MOSAIC Teaching Assistant.
3) REQUIRED NAMING CONVENTION
Resumes MUST be named using this convention or they will not be
posted:
LastName-FirstName.pdf
For example: John Smith would name his resume: Smith-John.pdf
4) SUBMITTING YOUR RESUME:

5) RESUME REVIEW
Prior to
submitting your properly formatted resume and cover letter, it is
highly encouraged to have the resume and cover letter reviewed by
your Career Advisor, Ben Cudia. Companies that are looking to hire
interns and full-time employees expect the resume and cover letter
to be as perfect as possible in format and content.
His office is in
the University Career Center (Atkins 150) and to see him, call the
University Career Center at 704-687-2231 (x7-2231) to set up an
appointment. You may also ask about his availability for a
“Drop-In” appointment.
